Do good with every sip

Oh, my goodness... Thanks to Kombuchery, both you and your body will not only feel good, but also have a good conscience.

As a start-up, we've been aware of our responsibility since day one, and social commitment and sustainability are close to our hearts. That's why we are proud members of Viva con Agua and The Climate Pledge.

With every bottle, you support selected projects around the world and consciously choose a better way to drink.

Kombuchery drinking helps

With every bottle of Kombuchery, you make a conscious choice – for yourself and for the world.

This is what a bottle of Kombuchery achieves:

  • You support access to clean drinking water
  • You help keep plastic out of the oceans
  • You support ingredients from controlled organic farming
  • You strengthen the circular economy
  • You help reduce the use of new plastic

In short: You're not just drinking differently – you're making a difference.

Clean Drinking Water

From day one, we've followed the motto: Every bottle of Kombuchery donates drinking water. Together with Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli e.V., we support drinking water and sanitation projects in Africa. We have been accompanying the Hamburg-based NGO since our foundation.

Every bottle thus contributes to providing people with long-term access to clean water.

The Climate Pledge

We are proud to be one of the first German members of The Climate Pledge. From raw materials to the finished bottle, we focus on the conscious use of resources. That's why we use one-way deposit bottles made from 100% recycled PET.

This way, we give used plastic a new life, keep valuable material in circulation, and reduce the need for new PET.

Organic farming

In all our products, we exclusively use high-quality, vegan organic ingredients certified according to EU organic standards. This way, we consistently focus on the highest quality and ingredients from controlled organic cultivation.

Consciously cultivated and full of flavour.

Less Plastic in the Ocean

For every bottle we put into circulation, we work with Plastic Bank to recover plastic from the environment before it can reach the ocean. In doing so, we make a direct contribution to combating plastic pollution while simultaneously supporting local collection structures and creating additional income opportunities on site. Every Kombuchery bottle thus helps keep plastic out of the environment and our oceans.

Why Disposable Bottles?

100% Recycled Material: We use single-use bottles made from 100% recycled PET. This gives previously used plastic a new life and reduces the need for new PET.

Light & efficient: Our rPET bottle is around 90% lighter than our previous glass bottle. This means we transport significantly less packaging weight – an important advantage on the journey from our bottling plant to you.

Circular Economy: After enjoying your drink, you can return each bottle via the German deposit system. This way, the material is collected and can be reintroduced into the recycling loop. For us, rPET thus combines three decisive advantages: recycled material, low weight, and circularity.

Our Deposit Return System

Bottles with Deposit for Recycling: We use rPET bottles that you can return after enjoying your kombucha as part of the German DPG one-way deposit system. They carry the one-way deposit symbol and can be returned at reverse vending machines throughout Germany.

Recycling instead of new raw materials: After being returned, the bottles are collected and sent for recycling. In this way, valuable PET can be reused, and the demand for newly produced plastic can be reduced.

Strengthening the circular economy together: With every returned bottle, you ensure that the material re-enters the recycling loop. This way, an empty Kombuchery bottle becomes a valuable raw material again.

FAQs

What does rPET stand for?

rPET stands for recycled PET, which means plastic that has already been in circulation and has been reprocessed. Our bottles are made from 100% recycled PET and are lightweight, shatterproof, and space-saving. They can be returned to the recycling loop after collection via the German deposit system.

What are the benefits of rPET bottles?

More content, same price: Our rPET bottles now contain 400 ml instead of 330 ml – that's 21% more kombucha for the same price.

Deposit-return system: You can return our rPET bottles wherever deposit bottles are accepted. This makes it simple, convenient, and efficient.

Light & efficient: Our rPET bottle is around 90% lighter than our previous glass bottle. This means we transport significantly less packaging weight from the bottler, through retailers, and to your home.

Is there microplastic in the bottles?

We, too, initially thought: glass bottles are automatically the better choice when it comes to microplastics. But studies show that it's not that simple.

In a study published by ÖKO-TEST (July 2021 issue), ten mineral water bottles were examined – five made of PET and five made of glass. The surprising result of this sample: The water from the examined glass bottles was, on average, more contaminated with microplastics than the water from the examined PET bottles.

The difference was particularly clear in a direct comparison from one manufacturer: 302 particles were found in the examined glass bottle, compared to 38 in the PET bottle.

So, the material of the bottle alone is not the deciding factor. Factors surrounding filling, closures, and the use of the packaging can also play a role in the formation of microplastics.

Our conclusion: Glass is not automatically the better choice than PET when it comes to microplastics. This is precisely why we consider packaging holistically – from material and weight to use, recycling, and circularity.

Is kombucha quality maintained in rPET?

The most important thing: Our kombucha remains just as high-quality and natural as you know it. We make no compromises whatsoever. Every bottle still contains authentic raw kombucha, unpasteurized, with millions of active cultures and precisely the taste you've come to expect from Kombuchery.
